In Reading Street, they introduced adjectives right around Halloween. Writing about monsters is a great way to use adjectives because there are so many ways to describe them.

Adjectives Don't Scare Miss Dunmore's Class!

We created monsters using Astrobright. I have different shapes for them to trace for the body. Created eyes on the computer using circles and gave them each 4 legs and 6 arms to cut out. It was up to them how many legs and arms. They wrote four sentences using adjectives to describe their monster physical appearance ie I have green legs, then the last sentence was describing their monsters personality "I am a nice monster". I differentiated it for a variety of writing levels. I provided tracer sentences frames, but everyone practiced brave spelling different adjectives (See below).
